I'll open this by saying I regret not getting the officer's name or badge number.
I was travelling through Sauk Rapids, MN on my way to Princeton, in order to take the US 10 to MN 23. A few intersectiona before the ramp to the 10, construction popped up with an interesting option. *Travel tips: buy a best backpacking stove
The road ahead was closed to through traffic with a detour going left into a tight turn, but there was a second detour sign that indicated I should still go straight in order to get on the 10. There was space for my truck to fit going both directions, and no "No Truck" signs.
It was dark so I couldn't see much past the No Thru Traffic sign, but I could see just enough to get the feeling that the US10 detour was not one I wanted to take. I turned on my hazards was about to pull out my atlas and figure out what to do when a city police cruiser pulled up.
I was a little nervous since I was stopped in the roadway, but called him over. I explained my thought process to him, and he let me know stopping to figure this out was absolutely the right decision. Going straight ahead was technically still a truck route but...it was only semi-accessible. (I'm sorry for the crappy pun.) They have actually been getting calls for a few days in that area, basically any car larger than a Sedan was unable to get through and unable to turn around on the roadway.
He gave me the actual directions, and saved me just enough time on my HOS with the help that I was able to get to my stop without taking a 30 beforehand.
Again, really wish I'd gotten the officer's name. Cops are getting a lot of shit recently, and I want to call the Sauk Rapids PD and recognize him for being helpful and informative, exactly how we used to think of the police.
Side note, I did roll into my delivery stop RIGHT as my driving hours ran out. It was the closest HOS shave I've had in a while.
